The Indiana Landmarks Center, located in the historic old Northside of Indianapolis downtown, preserves the relics of Indianapolis history situated throughout the city. Created in 1960, this Indianapolis non-profit organization was created by several Indianapolis civic leaders disheartened by the destruction of the historic houses that defined the capitol city. Today, the Indiana Landmarks Center maintains its own historic building in addition to the Morris-Butler House, the Huddleston Farmhouse, the Remedy Building, Terre Haute’s Mutual Saving, the Willey-Allhands Hosue, Veraestau, and West Baden Springs Hotel and French Lick Springs Resort. Discover a living piece of Indianapolis history at the Indiana Landmarks Center. This Indianapolis attraction also hosts Indianapolis events. Located in the heart of Indianapolis downtown near the Indiana State Capitol Building in the historic Emelie Building, the Kurt Vonnegut Memorial Library pays homage to one of Indianapolis’ most notable former residents. His satirical novels embodied the restless, anti-authority spirit of the late 60′s and early 70′s. The author of Slaughterhouse Five, Breakfast of Champions, Cat’s Cradle, and many others, Kurt Vonnegut wrote with a stripped down, ramshackle style that combined humor with stark observations of life in the mid 20th century. Some his characters, most notably the prolific (and third rate) science fiction writer Kilgore Trout, now hold a place in the public imagination of the country. Tour his sketches, early drafts and take a gander at the typewriter used to create the seminal works of his career. Here is a photo tour of this new Indianapolis attraction, celebrating a Hoosier hero and Indianapolis notable person.

Built in 1884, the G. C. Murphy Building is one of Indianapolis’ hippest attractions. Located in the Indianapolis cultural district, Fountain Square, this defunct five and dime chain store now houses a variety of Indianapolis bars, Indianapolis restaurants and Indianapolis art galleries. The first Friday of every month Indianapolis people flock to the Murphy building to enjoy art at the iMOCA, Big Car Gallery and other Indianapolis art galleries. Every day of the year, Indianapolis businesses serve hungry Hoosiers from the Murphy Building. With a new extension to the Indianapolis Cultural Trail running in front of the building and a chapter of the Indianapolis Marion County Police Department behind the building, the Murphy offers raucous, yet safe, fun all year long. Enjoy this pictorial of the Murphy Building and its surroundings in Fountain Square.
